I’ve given more thought about my side project’s application features after re-reading Getting Real by 37Signals. So, I went around and looked for Web 2.0 Accounting Apps and found this list of “the most awesome accounting and invoicing applications.” This list represents the anti-Quickbooks crowd, where the point is to simplify accounting software use and move away from the bloat.
They’re all on anĀ ASP (application service provider) business model, delivered over the web. I’m thinking that the same principles should be applicable to rich client applications as well.

I would love for the same principles to apply to client-side software, as a Mac user I get a lot more of it than the Windows gang but it is still sadly lacking especially if you want it cross platform.
I work for a .net development company and we’re still running Access databases for tracking employee time on projects because there just isn’t anything worth changing to!

Yikes! Unfortunately I’m developing on WPF which won’t be cross-platform anytime soon. (Mono isn’t working on WPF yet.)
Thanks for the list, Hayley!
